The mission also enabled the delegation to meet with potential partners interested in the development of a wind-hydrogen project, led by UQAR, that will be implemented in Antarctica. The project raised a lot of interest, as Argentina is now fully engaged in developing the use of hydrogen in the future. This innovative solution will showcase UQAR’s competencies in renewable energies and leverage the expertise of Professor Adrian Ilinca, of UQAR’s wind energy group, as well as of Mr. Marc Hubert, of ATFCAN, who brings expertise in hydrogen energy and who will help with the development of the project.

Finally, meetings with top Argentinean political representatives were held at the Senate, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Canadian Embassy in Buenos Aires, to establish official contacts for future development.

In the coming weeks, SOPER and Technopole maritime du Québec, in collaboration with ISMER, UQAR and ATFCAN, will pursue the work in progress with a clear focus on developing action plans for the two specific projects identified; the wind-hydrogen system in

Antarctica and the ocean observation system. On a short-term basis, the objectives are to better define the issues and challenges and to identify industrial and financial partners in order to pursue the development, and then the testing and implementation, of the projects.

In the medium-term, local business leaders will also be able to benefit from future opportunities to do business in Argentina, since many areas of interest have been identified by the economic development representatives from both regions.  SOPER will also be working with Argentinean entrepreneurs who are interested in expanding their business in Canada and particularly in the region of Rimouski.
